West Point Community Schools is led under the direction of the Board of School Trustees, otherwise known as the WPCS “school board”. The board consists of 5 members who are elected by registered voters within the district. The board’s responsibility is to oversee the operations of the district, and to encourage continued student improvement.
Ultimately, the policies in place within WPCS are produced by the Board of School Trustees with input from the various staff members within the district. Matters such as acquisition of personnel, budgeting, authorizing funding, reviewing curriculum and so on are also within the purview of the board. Although the board is headed by a president and vice president, there is no one member that can act on behalf of the board. All decisions reached by the board are done so with input from each member, and only after hearing comments from the public and staff.
